Working from a design, costume makers produce costumes all the way to the finished product. Key tasks include:
Working together with designers
Knowledge of materials: textiles’ quality and areas of application
Knowledge of the history of costumes
Production, forming and modelling of patterns for costumes
Sewing and other techniques for production of costumes
Use of machines and tools
Fitting and alterations of costumes
Adaptation of costumes to the production’s overall visual design
Planning, implementation, documentation and quality control of all work
Innovation and development of the trade
