Points and grades

Calculation of Admission Points for Vg1

When you compete for admission based on your grades, a point score is used.

The score is calculated from your final grades from lower secondary school. All final grades are included, that means both subject grades and exam grades.

How to calculate your point score:

Sum of all grades ÷ number of grades × 10 = point score

  1. Add up all your numeric grades.
  2. Divide the sum by the total number of grades.
  3. Multiply this average (with two decimals) by 10.
  4. The result is your total point score.
  • Each numeric grade counts with the same value as the grade itself.
  • The elective subject counts as one grade. If you have final grades in more than one elective, use the average of those grades (keep two decimals).
  • Subjects with the final assessment “Participated” or “Passed” are not included in the calculation.
  • Subjects you are exempt from, either from instruction or grading, are not included.
  • If you have received IV (no basis for assessment) or IM (absent from exam) without valid documentation, these are still included and count as 0 points.
  • If you have IM with documented absence, it does not affect your total score.
  • If several applicants end up with the same score for the final available places, the ranking is decided by a random draw.

Calculation of Admission Points for Vg2 and Vg3

When you compete for admission based on your grades, a point score is used.

When applying for Vg2 your score is based on all final grades, exam grades, and any mid-year grades from Vg1.

When applying for Vg3 your score is based on all final grades, exam grades, and any mid-year grades from Vg2.

In this case, mid-year grades (halvårsvurdering) means the grade you get at the end of the school year for subjects that continue in the next year. This grade shows your progress, but it does not count as your final grade on the transcript.

This grade should not be confused with the regular term grade that you get in the middle of the school year (in December/January).

  • Subjects with the final assessment “Participated” or “Passed,” or subjects without a final grade, are not included.
  • Subjects you are exempt from, either from instruction or grading, are not included.
  • If you have received IV (no basis for assessment) or IM (absent from exam) without valid documentation, these are still included and count as 0 points.
  • If you have IM with documented absence, it does not affect your total score.
  • If you have attended several different programs at Vg1 or Vg2 that all qualify for the next level, the best selection of grades will be used.
  • If you have taken subjects as a private candidate, the best selection of grades will be used.

If several applicants have the same score for the remaining places, the ranking is decided by a random draw.
