An occupational therapist works independently or with others to facilitate for both physical and social activities for various user groups so they can experience mastering, and have meaning and content in their daily lives. Important duties include:
- assessing the functional ability, needs and interests of the users
- facilitating for and planning social, physical and cultural activities based on the needs and abilities of each user
- motivating and guiding the users in various activities by using both verbal and visual communication methods
- planning and coordinating the activity sessions with users, next of kin and collboration partners
- planning new activities based on changes in the users– functional levels
- quality assuring the work in accordance with the rules, regulations, goals and values of the enterprise in question
