Pharmacy technicians are the largest vocational group in pharmacies; as a rule, they work in private and public pharmacies.

Sentrale arbeidsoppgaver

Pharmacy technicians give widespread counselling to customers, patients and other health personnel, and are involved in sales and services. Key tasks include:

guidance about and the sale of prescription medicine and aids, drugs, natural remedies, and non-prescription medicine and merchandise
joint responsibility for the self-service section of the pharmacy
contact with customers and patients
logistics and the placing of merchandise
active supplies to hospital wards
clerical tasks and bookkeeping

Personlige egenskaper

Pharmacy technicians must be able to plan, carry out, evaluate and learn from their own and others’ work. The work must be performed in accordance with ethical guidelines. This vocation is marked by a high degree of independence, although the ability to work in a team is very important. You must be able to provide customers with good service and be good at making contact with people.

To use the occupational title “pharmacy technician,” you need authorization from the the Norwegian Directorate of Health, see the Directorate of Health.
