Wood duodji craftsman (craft certificate)

A wood duojár works in small handicraft enterprises and workshops, such as enterprises devoted to artistic handicraft, domestic crafts or handicrafts.

A wood duojár produces, repairs and maintains traditional and new products made of wood, outer birch bark and roots, such as sledges, river boats, Sami cradles, harness, ladles, wooden cups and vessels (guksi ja náhppi) and storage objects. The wood duojár also develops new products from the perspective of an indigenous people.

Central tasks are

• production of duodjoproducts from burls, outer birch bark, bark, roots and the tree itself
• knowledge of traditional and new products and production processes
• developing handicraft skills and knowledge of materials
• obtaining, drying and storing wood materials 
• surface treatment and processing of wood materials during production
• repair and maintenance of duodji products
• production and maintenance of simple tools
• sketches and detailed drawings
• design and choice of materials
• finances and business development
• calculation of costs, prices and profitability
• marketing, sales and customer service
