Horn, bone and metal duodji craftsman (craft certificate)

A horn, bone and metal duojár works in small handicraft enterprises and workshops, such as silversmiths and artistic and functional handicraft enterprises.

A horn, bone and metal duojár produces, repairs and maintains traditional and new products made of horn, bone and metal. These could be knives, horn sheaths, hide scrapers,  weaver’s reeds, spoons, jacket clasps, belt buttons and jewellery. The horn, bone and metal duojár also develops new products from the perspective of an indigenous people.

Central tasks are

• production of duodji products in horn, bone and metal, also in combination with each other and with hide, leather, different parts of trees, stone and other materials
• processing, combining and using raw materials in accordance with Sami cultural traditions and new production methods
• developing handicraft skills and knowledge of materials
• obtaining, storing, sorting and dividing of horn and bone
• design, engraving and surface treatment of horn and bone
• processing and surface treatment of metal alloys and metals
• maintenance and repair
• production and maintenance of simple tools
• sketches and detailed drawings
• choice and basis for form, materials and ornamentation
• finances and business development
• calculation of costs, prices and profitability
• marketing, sales and customer service
