Admission to Vg1

To be admitted to an education programme at Vg1 level, the main rule is that you must have completed Norwegian lower secondary education or an equivalent qualification.

In Year 10 you must choose which education programmes you wish to apply for. You must submit the application for upper secondary school yourself. The main rule is that you apply for a place in the county where you live.

  • You are entitled to a place on one of the three education programmes you rank highest.
  • Your final grades from Year 10 may determine whether you are offered your first choice.

Admission to Vg2 and Vg3

The main rule for admission to Vg2 and Vg3 is that you must have passed all subjects from the previous year. This includes subjects with final (standpoint) grades, examination grades and subjects assessed with a half-year grade.

Other admission criteria (documented skills / interview)

The county authority may decide that up to half of the applicants to Vg1 in the education programmes for Sports and Music, Dance and Drama may be admitted on the basis of documented skills or an entrance audition combined with grades.

For admission to certain vocational programmes leading to both a vocational qualification and general university admission certification (YSK), the county may require both grades and an interview.

Applicants without letter or numerical grades

If you have completed an approved 10-year lower secondary education but your certificate does not include letter or numerical grades, you must apply under Individual assessment.
The same applies if you have completed Vg1 or Vg2 and your documentation lacks grades, for example if you attended a Steiner school.

Special requirements for certain occupations

Some occupations have specific professional requirements, even if these do not apply for admission to upper secondary education. These may include a police certificate, or requirements for vision, hearing, or similar abilities.
You should therefore read about the skills and formal requirements for the occupations you are interested in before deciding what to apply for.

Overgang mellom forskjellige studieforberedende utdanningsprogram

Hvis du har startet på et studieforberedende utdanningsprogram på Vg1 og ønsker å søke deg over til et annet studieforberedende utdanningsprogram på Vg2, må du ta fagene du mangler på Vg1 i det nye utdanningsprogrammet som privatist. Alle privatisteksamenene må være bestått før du kan begynne på Vg2/Vg3.

Selv om du har tatt fagene som privatist før inntaket, konkurrerer du likevel uten poeng, og vil kun få tilbud om skoleplass hvis det er ledig. Du bør derfor også søke videre på det utdanningsprogrammet du har fra Vg1/Vg2.

Ekstra poeng for ferdigheter ved inntak til Vg1 musikk, dans og drama eller Vg1 idrettsfag

Du kan du få ekstra poeng til å konkurrere deg inn med til Vg1 musikk, dans og drama eller Vg1 idrettsfag hvis du har spesielt gode og relevante ferdigheter.

Det er skolen som vurderer om de skal gi noen søkere ekstra poeng og til hvilke søkere. Det er bare hvis du har Vg1 idrettsfag eller Vg1 musikk, dans og drama som første ønske i Vigo-søknaden din du kan bli innkalt til opptaksprøve eller at idrettsprestasjonene dine skal bli vurdert. Forrang til skolen og studieprogrammet du har begynt på

Elever som går et treårig studieforberedende utdanningsprogram, vil få ekstra poeng som skal bidra til at de kan fortsette på samme skole gjennom hele opplæringsløpet.
