Are you guaranteed an apprenticeship placement?

It is the in-service training establishment that decides who is given an apprenticeship place, so you have no guarantees. So you must be active and try to establish contact with enterprises where you would like to be an apprentice or training candidate.

In some counties, the county authorities can give you an overview of relevant in-service training establishments.

If you have worked for a company during holiday periods, during placement from school or so on, this could give you a prior right to an apprenticeship place. In this case the company in question must confirm that it wishes to give you a place. It might pay to check into this possibility while you are placed in Vg2.

If you do not get any placement offers

If you have a statutory right to upper secondary education and training and have not received any concrete offer of an apprenticeship place when the arrangement period is over, you may receive an offer of alternative teaching/training in school in a recognized trade that builds on the Vg2 you completed. You may also be offered training in other counties.

The teaching/training at school usually concludes with a practical craft or journeyman’s examination – the same examination as for apprentices.

If you decline an offer from an in-service training establishment, you are not entitled to an offer of an apprenticeship place or an offer training in school during that school year. This may also apply if you decline an apprenticeship place in a county other than the one you live in.
