Milliners design their own models, or models according to proposals made by customers and commissioners. Key tasks include:

• Guidance to customers and commissioners on sewing and on various types of materials such as felt, straw, fur, textile quality, lining qualities etc.
• Pressing, stretching, draping, modelling and forming of suitable materials over heated hat blocks, wooden blocks and freehand, with the help of heat and humidity
• Construction of hat blocks from wire and other materials and production of all types of decorative elements for hats
• Planning and implementation of effective and profitable production
• Maintenance of machines, tools and equipment
• Patternmaking

You must be creative and have an appreciation of colour and form. You must be dexterous and enjoy creating, forming and modelling.
