 A ropemaker makes ropes by hand using different methods. Ropes, cables and hawsers are used on historical sailing ships, vessels and boats. The ropes are made of different materials, both the natural materials bast, hair, hemp and cotton and synthetic materials.

Central tasks are

• preparing different natural materials and spinning yarn
• handlaying, twisting and running rope
  
• stretching and smoothingtwisted yarns and ropes
• balancing ropes
  
• impregnating ropes
• testing the strength of raw materials and ropes
• rigging smaller, historical vessels/boats

You have to be good at working with your hands and be meticulous.
