Educational and vocational counselling

In collaboration with the school’s administration and teachers, your educational and vocational guidance counsellor will give you

• counselling and guidance about choice of education and vocation
  
• updated information about educational opportunities in Norway and other countries
  
• updated information about vocations and the labour market locally, nationally and internationally
  
• training in how to find information and how to use guidance tools
  
• information about application deadlines, admission criteria and financial support schemes
• training and counselling about how to apply for jobs and other application procedures
  

You are to be given help to become aware of your own interests, skills and values so that you can make decisions about educational and vocational choices without regard for traditional gender roles. You will also receive help to develop your abilities in assessing the consequences of your choices, among other things to prevent the making of wrong choices. In this work the school and the counsellor must collaborate with for example other education levels, local businesses and industry, partnerships for career guidance and your home. 

In vocational education programmes you will also receive educational and vocational guidance in the subject vocational specialization.
