A gilder cuts and assembles a wooden form in a frame and gilds the object.

Key tasks include:

• Conservation and restoration of old frames, mirror frames and period furniture gilded with precious metals
• Drawing of wooden shapes
• Laminating of mouldings
• Mitring and assembly of frames
• Glue-permeate, prepare and sand
• Gilding with gold, silver and metallic brass

As a gilder you must be dexterous, able to work on your own and have an appreciation of form and colour.
